From the time she brought home her first art
book from the local library, Toni Boozer, A.K.A. Blonde Blythe,
has been fascinated by artists such as El Greco, Bosch, and Waterhouse,
never believing, until recently, that she could be a professional
artist herself.
She became intrigued by big-eyed art, collecting and displaying
vintage prints by artists such as Keene, Gig, Maio, and Eden.
Toni had dabbled in oil painting in her twenties, focusing mainly
on portraits. But after a few years, she became burned out and
put down her brushes. Shortly after joining eBay, Toni began noticing
all the imaginative art work for sale in the self-representing
artists category, and was inspired to pick up her brushes once
again. Now Toni's dilemma was deciding what to paint for eBay!
Toni, whose hobbies include doll collecting, had recently begun
collecting vintage Blythe dolls. Suddenly, a light bulb went off
in Toni's head--"why not paint my favorite doll?" she
asked herself." Thus was born her very first Blythe portrait,
featuring a platinum blonde Blythe doll wearing the kozy kape
fashion, which quickly attracted bids on eBay. Not only did her
Blythe portraits attract bids, they also attracted the attention
of Tiffany Lewis, who was writing an article for "Barbie
Bazaar" magazine featuring the big-eyed beauties. The article,
which premiered in the July/August 2001 issue, presented two of
Toni's Blythe portraits as well as a short artist bio.
Toni paints with liquid acrylics on canvas. She will often set
out to paint something to sell on eBay, then, becoming too attached
to let it go, she will resign herself to displaying it on an overly-crowded
wall of her home. With big-eyed art, Toni feels that she has finally
found her niche in life, and hopes that you will see it that way,
too!
While Toni's work deviates to include other subjects from time
to time, she always returns to the "love of her life"--big-eyed
art, using her Blythe dolls as models. Toni's work has further
progressed due to the mentoring of her favorite contemporary artists
and friends, Misty Benson and Jasmine Becket-Griffith, who push
her to achieve heights that, until recently, she never dreamed
possible!
